Dr. John S. Phelps - President
John is a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois and a homeowner in Stone Creek since 2001. After attending University High School and Southern Illinois University, he received his degree in Dentistry from Washington University in St. Louis. John went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps and completed his Orthodontics residency from the University of Texas – Houston. John has been a practicing Orthodontist in Carbondale since 1973. John currently resides on Stone Lake Drive with his wife Karol. They have four adult children and one granddaughter.
John loves his home and neighbors in Stone Creek and looks forward to working with the Stone Creek community as the Homeowners’ Association President.
Robby Baker - Vice President
Roopa Gulati - Treasurer
Roopa and her husband Raj have been residents of Southern Illinois since 1980, and have been in Stone Creek since 2003. Roopa was born in Shimla, a town in northern India at the foothills of the Himalayas, where she earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees before coming to the United States. Over the years Roopa has volunteered her time for several local causes including for the PTA at Unity Point School as the chair of the annual International Festival and Book Fair, and currently for the Friends of WSIU board, all of which she has found very rewarding. Roopa and Raj have one adult son.
Roopa looks forward to continuing her service to the community as the Homeowners’ Association Treasurer.
Woody Thorne - Secretary
Woody is Vice President of Community Affairs for Southern Illinois Healthcare and his wife Rita is a pharmacist. They have four children, one of whom is still at home. Woody's work includes the direction of SIH's marketing, communications, media relations, fund development, and community benefits activities. Prior to working for Southern Illinois Healthcare, Woody worked in financial services providing financial and estate planning services to small business owners and professionals. The Thornes serve on numerous community organizations as board members or volunteers. Hobbies include outdoor sports and many family activities involving their kids and extended family and friends.
Charlie Travelstead
Charlie was born and raised in southern Illinois and resides in Stone Creek with his wife Anne of 17 years. He attended Marion High School, John A. Logan College, Illinois State University and Southern Illinois University. Charlie retired in 2000 after 38 years with GTE North as District Manager, Southern Division. Following his retirement, Charlie was Facility Director for Brehm Preparatory School until 2010. Charlie has served on the boards of several local civic organizations including the Carbondale Business & Development Board, Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, Carbondale Memorial Hospital, and Partners in Excellence. He is a retired member of the Carbondale Lions Club and long-time Saluki Booster, SASF Supporter, Jackson Country Country Club member and current Stone Creek Club member. Charlie currently serves as a member of the Buncombe Public Water District Board.
Charlie has two adult sons and four grandchildren.
